The “Sowing Seeds for Healthy Kids” is a garden-based nutrition education curriculum for elementary school-aged children. This six-lesson curriculum complements our “Building Blocks for Healthy Kids” module by focusing on gardening as a tool to promote healthy eating habits and to help students develop a broader understanding of the food system. We hope that by offering these two modules of the curriculum, which are easily implemented as a year-long program broken out into two semesters, we can encourage the adoption of these successful nutrition education programs in more communities. An accompanying Teaching Guide provides suggestions for planning and adapting lessons, as well as advice on instruction and behavior management for volunteers who may or may not have any background in education. An accompanying Garden Guide provides information on starting and maintaining a garden.
