Vermont Agency of Natural Resources developed these symbols with stakeholder assistance in 2013. The background is green with a white apple core symbol. This symbol is consistent with color schemes and imagery used in major US cities that have collected food scraps for many year. Green coloring is consistent with Keep America Beautiful and US Composting Council adopted color recommendation, selected through stakeholder engagement, that was announced January of 2017.
