Nutrition is a scientific discipline that explores how various nutrients in food (such as vitamins, fats and minerals) impact the health of humans, animals, plants and other organisms. Students who enroll in collegiate nutrition programs take courses in food science, organic chemistry and other STEM subjects. They also learn about the importance of diet, or eating habits based on food availability and palatability. Many careers in nutrition ― including registered dietitians and nutritionists ― are attainable with a bachelor’s degree. Graduates can further build their skill set and increase their career standing by earning a master’s in nutrition online.
